STRENGTH TRAINER

Juliya Oksana

CERTIFIED PERSONAL TRAINER & NUTRITION COACH

For Juliya Oksana, strength training is much more than a workout—it's been a pathway to healing, resilience, and discovering just how capable the human body can be. Her personal journey has shaped not only the way she trains, but the way she coaches others with empathy, encouragement, and a deep appreciation for every milestone along the way.

Born in Dnipropetrovsk, Ukraine, and raised in Charlottesville, Virginia, Juliya has always loved sports and staying active. But it wasn't until her twenties, after undergoing several surgeries, that strength training became a central part of her life. As she rebuilt her own body, she discovered firsthand the transformative impact that thoughtful, progressive resistance training can have—not only physically, but mentally as well.

Juliya's journey is also deeply influenced by living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, a connective tissue disorder that presents unique challenges with joint stability and injury risk. Rather than allowing the diagnosis to define her, she embraced strength training as a way to build resilience and improve her quality of life. That experience ultimately inspired her to become a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach, where she now helps others discover that strength is possible regardless of where they're starting. She is also pursuing her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, combining her passion for fitness with a growing foundation in healthcare.

Juliya was drawn to The Strength Initiative because of its commitment to creating a welcoming, supportive environment where women can build confidence alongside strength. She believes that everyone deserves access to evidence-based coaching and a community that celebrates progress at every stage of life.

In the gym, Juliya enjoys blending traditional strength training with stability-focused exercises, believing that both are essential for building a body that is not only strong but durable. While she loves incorporating balance and control into her programming, the back squat remains her favorite lift—a movement that perfectly combines strength, confidence, and resilience.

Outside the gym, Juliya's greatest joy is spending time with her five-year-old son, Luke, who keeps life full of adventure and laughter. She's also an avid fan of true crime podcasts and documentaries, and if she's not coaching, studying for nursing school, or working out herself, there's a good chance she's listening to her latest mystery while staying active.

Juliya's story has taken her around the world. Adopted from Ukraine as a child, she was fortunate to travel extensively with her mother, visiting seven countries and experiencing a wide variety of cultures before eventually spending a short time living in Texas and returning to Charlottesville.

Whether she's coaching someone through their first squat, encouraging a member recovering from injury, or helping women realize they're capable of more than they imagined, Juliya leads with compassion, determination, and authenticity. She knows from personal experience that strength isn't reserved for people with perfect bodies—it's built through consistency, resilience, and the courage to keep showing up.
