Kim Gray
STRENGTH TRAINER
Kim has spent her career helping people discover that movement isn't just something we do during a workout—it's one of the most powerful tools we have for living healthier, more independent lives. With nearly two decades of experience in exercise science, workplace wellness, and group fitness, she brings a thoughtful, evidence-based approach to helping people build strength that lasts.
Kim earned her BS in Clinical Exercise Science followed by an MS in Kinesiology, and is both an ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist and an ACE Certified Group Fitness Instructor and Health Coach. Throughout her career, she has led wellness initiatives in a variety of settings, including the Federal Executive Institute, Northrop Grumman, the Pottstown Family YMCA, and Mack Trucks. Today, she is the Founder and Chief Movement Enthusiast of WorkBreakStretch LLC, where she helps people incorporate movement and stretch breaks into the workday through educational programs and more than 250 movement videos shared online.
Although Kim has always loved being active—playing sports growing up and spending time as a runner—it wasn't until 2015 that strength training became a consistent cornerstone of her own fitness routine. Since then, she's become passionate about helping others understand what the research continues to show: maintaining muscle is one of the best ways to support health, independence, and quality of life as we age. One phrase has especially stayed with her over the years: "Muscle is the organ of longevity." It's a reminder she carries into both her own training and her coaching.
Kim first connected with The Strength Initiative while exploring a potential collaboration through her work. The more she learned about the organization's physician-founded, science-backed mission, the more she realized she wanted to be part of it. She believes strength training and regular movement are among the greatest gifts we can give ourselves and is excited to help women experience those benefits in a supportive, welcoming community.
When it comes to training, Kim loves exercises that translate directly to everyday life. Squats top her list because of their incredible functional value, and push-ups are another favorite—they're the movement that makes her feel truly strong.
Outside the gym, Kim enjoys cooking and experimenting with new recipes, tending to her vegetable and herb garden, bass fishing (always catch-and-release), and finding creative outlets through sewing, handmade gifts, and card making. She's also known for tackling an organizing project while listening to a good podcast—something her husband affectionately teases her about, claiming she "organizes just to reorganize."
Kim has also collected a few unexpected experiences along the way. She's thrown out a ceremonial first pitch at a San Francisco Giants game, moved across the country four different times (driving across it three of them), and remains a firm believer that handwritten notes are one of the most meaningful ways to brighten someone's day. At home, she and her husband are kept entertained by their two miniature dachshunds, while her appreciation for a perfectly delivered dad joke and the occasional reality TV binge reminds everyone that even exercise physiologists have their guilty pleasures.
Whether she's leading a strength class, encouraging someone to stand up from their desk for a movement break, or celebrating a member's first full push-up, Kim brings warmth, enthusiasm, and an unwavering belief that every movement matters. Her goal is simple: help people build the strength they need to enjoy life for years to come.
